The 15-month checkup: what to expect and what to ask
Fifteen months tends to be a shorter appointment, and it is the one people most often skip.
It is worth keeping — it sits between two screening visits and catches the language questions early.
What this visit usually covers
- Growth, physical exam and immunisations.
- Language: a handful of words, following a simple instruction, pointing to ask.
- Walking and general movement.
- Behaviour and sleep, including night waking and the cot-to-bed question.
Worth asking
Take this in with you. The appointment moves faster than you expect, and the specific question gets a specific answer.
- How many words should we expect by now, and does understanding count?
- Tantrums have started — is this ordinary for the age?
- When does she move out of the cot, and what triggers it?
- Anything about eating that has become a battle.
