Pressure-mounted. Doorways and the BOTTOM of stairs only. A pressure gate is held by tension against the frame and can be pushed out by a child leaning on it, so it must never be fitted at the head of a staircase — that position needs a gate screwed into the wall or banister. On a staircase with a banister you cannot screw into a round baluster, so use a banister adapter kit (Perma, EZ-Fit and similar, sold at Target and Home Depot) rather than improvising — the kit gives the gate a flat post to clamp or screw to. Zip ties alone are a stopgap: they can hold an adapter or a net in place, but they do not turn a pressure gate into a hardware-mounted one.
