Safety check — clear
We cross-checked this product and its manufacturer against CPSC recall notices, NHTSA child-seat recalls, FDA recalls and the AAP's safe-sleep criteria on August 31, 2026, and found no active recall or safe-sleep concern. That is a check of the public recall record, not a test of the product.
We looked for independent reviews and didn't find any
We searched the review sites and video channels we normally draw on, and found listings and product descriptions rather than anyone's actual experience. That's usually a sign this is a commodity — the ratings above are real, and beyond them there isn't much to weigh up. Buy the cheap one.

We take no commission on anything here, so we can say what most lists won't: a good deal of standard baby gear is skippable, borrowable, or actively discouraged by current safety guidance.

Pressure-mounted, despite this listing describing it as suitable for the top of stairs. Treat it as a doorway and BOTTOM-of-stairs gate only: a pressure gate is held by tension and can be pushed out of its frame, which at the head of a staircase is a fall. For the top of stairs use a hardware-mounted gate. On a staircase with a banister you cannot screw into a round baluster, so use a banister adapter kit (Perma, EZ-Fit and similar, sold at Target and Home Depot) rather than improvising — the kit gives the gate a flat post to clamp or screw to. Zip ties alone are a stopgap: they can hold an adapter or a net in place, but they do not turn a pressure gate into a hardware-mounted one.
